Windows Jailbreak for IPhone 2.0
Winpwn has been updated, so Windows users can jailbreak iPhones and iPod Touches running the 2.0 software. We successfully hacked an iPod Touch using a Mac and the Pwnage Tool, and judging by the instructions on the Winpwn site, this works in much the same way: It creates a custom IPSW file (the file which iTunes uses to restore your iPhone, thus tricking it into loading the hacked software), and then puts your iPhone into recovery mode to do the dirty business. We haven’t tried it out yet (I don’t have a PC in the house), so the screenshot above is from the 1.0 version of Winpwn. If any of you try this out, let us know how it goes. My iPod Touch is still going strong, but it seems to be getting very hot when it is sleeping. I expect there is something running in the background that shouldn’t be, although whether this is due to the hacked firmware or problems with the official application, I don’t yet know. Secret URL May Allow Apple to Delete Your iPhone Apps Remotely
It’s supposed to be your “life in your pocket,” not Apple’s. But a piece of code discovered in the iPhone operating system might keep you under Apple’s control. Jonathan Zdrianski, author of the book iPhone Open Application Development, discovered a URL hidden in iPhone’s CoreLocation that he believes the iPhone uses to check whether any apps on your phone match with those listed in a database of blacklisted applications. Presumably, that would allow Apple to remotely de-authorize those apps, or perhaps even delete them. “This suggests that the iPhone calls home once in a while to find out what applications it should turn off,” Zdrianski wrote. “At the moment, no apps have been blacklisted, but by all appearances, this has been added to disable applications that the user has already downloaded and paid for, if Apple so chooses to shut it down.” Hum. So then all of those who got away with NetShare before it disappeared from the App Store aren’t so safe/lucky after all. Click to continue »

Inn reservation software for Mac
We love Mac. Many of us have at least one Apple device attached to us at all times, and a few years ago I began switching our retail stores and the Land Rover Experience Driving Schools that I manage to Macs as well. We were able to find a great POS (point of sale system) for Mac and while there is some training time required for staff, all-in-all our staff really love the change. Now we are faced with the technology set-up of the Inn. Our requirements include an integrated web-based reservations system that ideally is available from off site and is also constantly updated at the Snapdragon Inn front desk as well. And of course, we would love it to be available to run on a Mac. So far we have found few options and have even considered adapting the iCal application for our specific uses. The other product in the running is BookingCenter. If anyone has used it or if anyone knows a better system, please let us know. This is one item we are locking in as soon as possible. Cleaning iPhone
To clean iPhone, unplug all cables and turn off iPhone (press and hold the Sleep/ Wake button, then slide the onscreen slider). Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPhone. http://www.apple.com/iphone/tips/
