Advertising regulators in the UK have ruled that one of Apple’s iPhone television commercials mislead customers and ordered it banned from further broadcast.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it received complaints from two local viewers who took issue with a claim in the 30-second spot which stated that “all the parts of the internet are on the iPhone.”
That assertion was misleading, they said, because the iPhone does not support Flash or Java, two proprietary technologies that sometimes prove integral in the display of certain web pages.
When contacted by the ASA, Apple said it built the Safari web browser on the iPhone using open standards, and that it could not reasonably assure compatibility with every third party plug-in or technology on the market.
The Cupertino-based company also argued that the reference in the ad to “all parts of the internet” was simply aimed at highlighting Internet site availability, not to every aspect of functionality available on every website.
The ASA noted Apple’s argument that the ad was about site availability rather than technical detail, but considered in its deliberation that the claims “Youll never know which part of the internet youll need” and “all parts of the internet are on the iPhone” implied users would be able to access all websites and see them in their entirety. Some of my buddies have expressed astonishment that I get approximately thirty-six hours of standby with my iPhone, so I’m sharing my settings. Note: this is my second 3G iPhone–I returned the first one because I was getting only five hours of standby time.

This is my usage screen. One thing to notice: I don’t talk much on the phone–”talk is not cheap” in my book. I am totally an email/tweet centric person. This clearly contributes to my standby time. I consider my iPhone a “tinytop computer that can also send and receive phone calls” as opposed to a phone that can “do email and browse.” Read the rest of this entry »
Iphone is a great tool for event managers.
It can actually perform productive work on the internet unlike most of other mobiles out there. I was using a Blackberry before but made the switch and I am being rewarded every day for that.
Iphone apps contribute to make it a better tool. There are free applications which will make you more productive, social and efficient, which are qualities we all share but in constant need of improvement.
But let’s see.
1. Evernote
The service in itself is great. Whenever you stumble upon something you need to remember you just save it to this small app. Being it a text, voice, saved or live pic. You’ll then be able to see it on your phone as well as on your online account, therefore on your main laptop.
2. Checklist
If we are talking about to do’s in the next hours or so, you want to check out this application. Very easy to use and simple, and we love simplicity.
3. Zoho
This is not an app, but the iphone version of the popular suite. Youcan actually create, view and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations from your phone. If you are using a spreadsheet say for budget, you definitely want to sync it with Zoho and later consult it or edit it from your phone. Google Docs is a good solution for that as well, but without the editing capabilities. Read the rest of this entry »
